The Blue and White Crew

The Blue and White Crew is a volunteer trail crew, sponsored by the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. The crew works primarily in the Central District of Shenandoah National Park (the region of the Park that covers the area from Thornton Gap in the north to Swift Run Gap in the south). The crew schedules monthly work trips in the Park throughout the year, as well as volunteer training sessions and occasional trips to trails in the Washington, D.C. region. Visit the crew calendar for a list of upcoming trips. More information about crew activities, including points of contact, are available on the "about the crew" pages.

The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club

The PATC is a 7000-member volunteer organization, headquartered in Vienna, Virginia. The club, founded in 1927, is responsible for the maintenance of 240 miles of the Appalachian Trail, as well as approximately 800 miles of other trails in the Mid-Atlantic region. The club maintains many of the side (blue-blazed) trails in Shenandoah National Park.
In addition to trail work, PATC volunteers maintain trail-side cabins, huts and shelters; assist in search and rescue operations; conduct classes in Leave No Trace outdoor ethics; organize group recreational events (hikes and excursions); and help in natural resource conservation.
For more information visit the PATC website.

In July, the Blue and White Crew performed tread repair on the AT, near the Jewell Hollow Overlook. A German film crew was on hand to film the excitement. Crew members brought their agents along, who worked feverishly to finalize film and television commitments before the crew broke camp on Sunday afternoon. Watch your listings for the new reality show, "Dirt from the Trail."
The weekend also provided the opportunity for the crew to return to the White Oak Cabins, it's long-time weekend bivouac in the 90s.
