In May, the Blue and White Crew completed building the stone steps on the "Mather Side Trail", the short route linking the AT (near Jefferson's Rock) to ATC Headquarters in Harpers Ferry. The project involved several large grants and many work trips. The final product was 111 large stone steps on a very steep trail section. Both the crew and its partners (the ATPO, ATC, and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park) were extremely happy with the outcome.
Since the work on the steps went much faster than anticipated (the crew had scheduled 5 days for the project), crew volunteers spent several days doing tread repair and vegetation control on the AT section adjacent to the Mather Trail. |
