| The Blue and White Crew scheduled its annual AT "sweep" in March. The crew split into three small groups to covers as much ground as possible. Patrick, Melanie, Jerry, and Fran covered the trail from Swift Run Gap to Spitler Knoll Overlook. John Hedrick and Bruce White checked out many of the sections between the Pinnacles Picnic Ground and Milam Gap. Mike, John Hebbe, Melissa, SV, and Kerry started hiking north from the Pinnacles Picnic Ground. The trail was very icy in places, and Mr Dove hit a particularly slippery section, falling and breaking his hip. Prompt response from the SNP Rangers and the Luray Rescue Squad ensured quick medical care for Mr Dove, who was tranported to Page Memorial Hospital in Luray, and then to UVA Hospital in Charlottesville for hip surgery. The surgery was successful, and Mr Dove is expected to be up and around in about a month. |
