The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club
The PATC is a 7000-member volunteer organization, headquartered in Vienna, Virginia. The club, founded in 1927, is responsible for the maintenance of 240 miles of the Appalachian Trail, as well as approximately 800 miles of other trails in the Mid-Atlantic region. The club maintains many of the side (blue-blazed) trails in Shenandoah National Park.
In addition to trail work, PATC volunteers maintain trail-side cabins, huts and shelters; assist in search and rescue operations; conduct classes in Leave No Trace outdoor ethics; organize group recreational events (hikes and excursions); and help in natural resource conservation.

For an early April retreat, the Blue and White crew made their home at the most remote structure in Shenandoah National Park. Working in and around Jones Mountain cabin, they improved the cabin grounds, installed numerous waterbars and checkdams on the spur trail, cut locust logs for more erosion-control devices, and even cut and split firewood for future cabin renters. Crew members Melanie Perl, Kurt Fisher, Patrick and Uli Wilson, Stan Turk, John Hebbe, and Fran Okeson took full advantage of the perfect weather and cozy, historic accommodations.
